About AW Automotive Founded in 1979, AW Automotive introduced its flameproof electric starter later that year. This led to the manufacture of flameproof alternators, hooters, lights and sirens. Although the products proved to be highly successful, the inner section of the alternator was imported. After many months of intensive research and development the company was able to announce it's first 100% locally manufactured alternator. The alternator, designed specifically for a flame and waterproof environment, became an instant success. Outside the flameproof industry, AW Automotive repairs and modifies mining equipment such as LHD differentials, gearboxes, hydraulic/pneumatic starters, pumps, etc. High quality standards which enforced by company policy have ensured the company's success and has brought confidence to the many mining houses utilizing AW Automotives products. This website contains our product range manufactured in our Johannesburg factory. Being primarily a local manufacturing company, our main concern is in the end user satisfaction.
